Some background:

Westhampnett Volunteers were formed in 2012 in response to the lack of funding from WSCC to carry out regular servicing of footpaths, litter clearance etc, and the increasing cost of hiring contractors.

At that time the footpath on the south side of Stane Street was particularly heavily overgrown with brambles, nettles and overhanging branches. We applied for and received a grant from CDC's New Homes Bonus scheme to buy equipment such as strimmers, hedge cutters, mower and a range of hand tools. We regularly cut the footpaths running from Westerton to Maudlin and to the Rolls Royce roundabout, keep the Claypit Lane and Stane Street footpaths clear as well as grass cutting and litter-picking throughout the year.

We are a group of residents who share the tasks between us. New volunteers, of all ages, are always welcome to join our friendly team, and no experience is needed.

Volunteers are covered by the Parish Council's insurance and risk assessments are undertaken. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided.
